Mitomycin (Mitomycin) 40 mg
Mitomycin 40 mg is a high-strength vial of the antitumor antibiotic Mitomycin C.
Purpose of the 40 mg Vial:
Designed for high-dose chemotherapy regimens or hospital pharmacy compounding. It minimizes the number of vials needed for a single treatment session, reducing the risk of contamination and handling errors.
✅ Key Use Case: Widely used in HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy), where high concentrations are circulated in the abdominal cavity to treat peritoneal metastases.
Used in the treatment of:
- Peritoneal Carcinomatosis: Via intraperitoneal administration (HIPEC) for gastric or colorectal cancer.
- Bladder Cancer: High-dose intravesical therapy.
- Systemic Cancer: Gastric, Pancreatic, and Anal cancers (IV route).
⚠️ DANGER: Potent Vesicant. Handle with extreme care.
Reconstitution of 40 mg Vial:
- Usually reconstituted with 40 ml of Sterile Water or Saline to achieve a concentration of 1 mg/ml.
- Ensure complete dissolution before administration.
Administration: Intravenous (IV), Intravesical, or Intraperitoneal. NEVER intramuscular or subcutaneous (causes severe gangrene/necrosis).
- Coagulation disorders or increased bleeding tendency.
- Severe bone marrow depression.
- Pregnancy (Teratogenic).
- Acute infection.
Delayed Toxicity Warning:
Myelosuppression (low blood counts) is delayed and cumulative. The nadir (lowest point) usually occurs 4-6 weeks after therapy. Dose adjustments are often required for subsequent cycles.
Other risks: Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), interstitial pneumonia.
