CA ATRA-10 (Tretinoin) 10 mg
CA ATRA-10 is an oral antineoplastic drug containing Tretinoin (10 mg), also known as All-Trans Retinoic Acid.
Manufacturer: Jenome Biophar (India). Generic equivalent of Vesanoid.
Differentiation Therapy:
ATRA is not a typical cytotoxic chemotherapy. Instead of killing cells directly, it forces immature leukemic cells (promyelocytes) to mature into normal blood cells. This process stops the accumulation of cancer cells in the bone marrow.
✅ Benefit: High remission rates in APL patients when combined with chemotherapy.
Indicated for the induction of remission in patients with:
- Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL): FAB classification M3. Used for both newly diagnosed patients and those who have relapsed.
Strength: 10 mg Soft Gelatin Capsules.
Standard Dosage: 45 mg/m²/day administered in two evenly divided doses until complete remission is achieved (usually up to 90 days).
⚠️ Administration Instructions:
- 🍲 Take with food. Absorption is enhanced by fats.
- Swallow whole; do not chew.
- Consistency is key: Take at the same times each day.
🚫 BLACK BOX WARNING: PREGNANCY (Category X).
There is an extremely high risk that Tretinoin will cause severe birth defects. Effective contraception is mandatory for all female patients of childbearing potential.
Drug Interactions:
- Avoid Vitamin A supplements (Hypervitaminosis A risk).
- Avoid Tetracyclines (Risk of Intracranial Hypertension).
Critical Warning: Retinoic Acid Syndrome (RAS).
Symptoms include fever, dyspnea, acute respiratory distress, weight gain, and edema. Immediate medical attention is required.
Common side effects:
- Dry skin, chapped lips, dry nose/eyes.
- Headache (Pseudotumor cerebri).
- Bone pain and nausea.
