Tafero (Tenofovir Alafenamide) 25 mg Tablets
Tafero is a next-generation antiviral medication for Hepatitis B. Active ingredient: Tenofovir Alafenamide (25 mg), often abbreviated as TAF.
Manufacturer: Hetero Healthcare (India). Generic equivalent of Vemlidy.
The Safety Upgrade:
Compared to the older Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF), Tafero is highly stable in plasma and delivers the drug directly into hepatocytes (liver cells). This allows for a much lower dose (25 mg vs 300 mg), drasticallly reducing the risk of kidney damage and bone density loss.
✅ Benefit: The gold standard for long-term Hepatitis B suppression.
Indicated for the treatment of Chronic Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults and adolescents (aged 12 years and older) with compensated liver disease.
It is the preferred choice for patients with:
- Risk of renal impairment.
- Risk of osteoporosis or bone fractures.
Standard Dosage: One tablet (25 mg) taken orally once daily.
⚠️ Instructions:
- 🍲 Take with food. Taking it with a meal increases absorption.
- Do not miss doses. Sudden discontinuation can lead to severe acute exacerbation of Hepatitis B.
- Hypersensitivity to Tenofovir Alafenamide.
- Decompensated cirrhosis (Child-Pugh B or C) — requires careful monitoring.
- Breastfeeding.
- HIV Co-infection warning: All patients must be tested for HIV before starting therapy. Tafero alone is not sufficient to treat HIV and may cause resistance.
Known for its excellent safety profile. Mild side effects may include:
- Headache.
- Abdominal pain.
- Fatigue.
- Cough.
