Oxalion 100 mg (Oxaliplatin) Injection
Oxalion 100 mg (Oxaliplatin) is the standard therapeutic vial size of this platinum-based antineoplastic agent.
Manufacturer: Biotech / Medion. Containing 100 mg of Oxaliplatin, this vial serves as the primary unit for preparing chemotherapy infusions for patients with gastrointestinal malignancies.
Mechanism of Action:
Oxaliplatin acts as an alkylating agent, forming inter- and intrastrand cross-links in DNA. This inhibits DNA replication and transcription in rapidly dividing cancer cells, leading to cell death (apoptosis).
✅ Key Benefit: Highly effective in improving survival rates in colorectal cancer patients, especially when combined with fluoropyrimidines (FOLFOX regimen).
Indicated for the treatment of adults via intravenous infusion:
- 🎗️ Metastatic Colorectal Cancer: First-line treatment for advanced disease.
- 🛡️ Adjuvant Treatment of Stage III Colon Cancer: For patients who have undergone complete resection of the primary tumor.
Packaging: Single Dose Vial containing 100 mg of Oxaliplatin.
⚠️ ADMINISTRATION PROTOCOL:
- 💉 Method: Intravenous (IV) infusion only, over 2 to 6 hours.
- 🧪 Dilution: Must be diluted in 5% Dextrose (Glucose) injection ONLY.
- 🚫 CRITICAL WARNING: DO NOT mix with Normal Saline (0.9% NaCl) or any chloride-containing solutions. Incompatibility causes precipitation and degradation.
- 📉 Dosage: Typically 85 mg/m² of body surface area, administered every 2 weeks.
- Known hypersensitivity to oxaliplatin or other platinum compounds.
- Severe renal impairment.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Pre-existing severe peripheral sensitive neuropathy.
Patients must be warned about acute neurosensory toxicity:
- ❄️ Cold-Triggered Neuropathy: Exposure to cold (drinks, air, surfaces) can cause painful paresthesia and pharyngolaryngeal dysesthesia (feeling of inability to breathe). Avoid cold!
- 🩸 Bone Marrow Suppression: Neutropenia, Thrombocytopenia, Anemia.
- 🤢 Gastrointestinal: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomatitis.
