Honvan — Fosfestrol 120 mg
Honvan is a synthetic estrogen used in prostate cancer therapy. Active ingredient: Fosfestrol (120 mg).
Manufacturer: Zydus (India). It acts as a prodrug with a unique targeted delivery system.
Mechanism of Action:
Fosfestrol is inactive until it reaches the prostate gland. High levels of the enzyme acid phosphatase found in prostate tissue convert Fosfestrol into its active cytotoxic form (Diethylstilbestrol). This allows for a high concentration of the drug within the tumor while minimizing systemic side effects.
✅ Benefit: Effective even in hormone-refractory prostate cancer cases.
Indicated for the treatment of:
- Advanced Prostate Cancer: Particularly metastatic carcinoma of the prostate.
- Hormone-Refractory Cases: Used when the tumor stops responding to standard androgen deprivation therapy.
- Relief of bone pain associated with metastases.
