Glycolate 1 (Glycopyrrolate) 1 mg
Glycolate 1 (Glycopyrrolate 1 mg) is a powerful medication originally designed for stomach issues, now widely recognized as an effective oral treatment for Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
Manufacturer: Intas Pharmaceuticals (India).
The "Happy Accident" Story:
Glycopyrrolate was first developed to treat peptic ulcers by reducing stomach acid. Doctors quickly realized that it had a potent systemic effect: it stopped sweating completely. Today, it is primarily used off-label to help people stay dry when topical antiperspirants fail.
ℹ️ Note: The official leaflet inside the box mentions stomach ulcers. Do not worry, this is the correct medication for sweating.
Clinical uses include:
- 💧 Hyperhidrosis (Sweating): For excessive sweating of hands (palmar), feet (plantar), face, and underarms. It works by blocking the acetylcholine receptors on sweat glands.
- 💊 Gastroenterology (Original use): As an adjunctive therapy for peptic ulcer disease to suppress gastric acid secretion.
Standard Dosage: Start with 1 mg twice daily. Adjust based on dryness level.
⚠️ CRITICAL ABSORPTION RULE:
- 🚫 Must be taken on an empty stomach.
- ⏰ Timing: Take at least 1 hour before a meal or 2-3 hours after eating.
- Food drastically lowers bioavailability. If taken with breakfast, it will treat your stomach acid but will not stop the sweating.
- Glaucoma.
- Obstructive uropathy (e.g., enlarged prostate).
- Obstructive disease of the gastrointestinal tract.
- Unstable cardiovascular status.
Since it reduces body secretions ("drying effect"):
- 🌵 Dry Mouth (Xerostomia): Very common indicator that the drug is active.
- Dry Eyes: Use artificial tears if needed.
- Constipation.
- Reduced heat tolerance (risk of heatstroke during intense exercise).
